Dr. Anne Colwell, author and professor of English at the UD AAP's Georgetown campus, is a recent recipient of the Delaware Division of the Arts' Individual Artist Fellowship.
Delaware Division of the Arts (DDA) fellowships are granted annually in three categories: Masters, Established Professional, and Emerging Professional, and recipients are awarded $10,000, $6,000, or $3,000, respectively. Colwell was awarded the 2020 Established Professional Award in the discipline of creative nonfiction.
"There's a long list of people I'm grateful to for making this possible," Colwell said. "The Delaware State Arts Council and their generous support of artists throughout the state; the students of the University of Delaware Associate in Arts Program, who inspired me by courageously writing their own memoirs; Maribeth Fischer — fellow writer and friend — who worked through every draft; and especially my family, who give me the heart to write at all."
“Individual Artist Fellowship grants provide the recognition and exposure that artists need to successfully promote their work," said DDA director Paul Weagraff. The financial award allows them to pursue advanced training, purchase equipment and materials, or fulfill other needs to advance their careers.”
The work of the 2020 DDA Fellows will be featured in a group exhibition, Award Winners XX, at the Biggs Museum of American Art in Dover from June 5 to July 23, 2020, with an award ceremony and reception on Wednesday, June 10. Selections from Award Winners will travel to CAMP Rehoboth for the month of August, then The Cab Calloway School of the Arts from Sept. 4 to Oct. 25, 2020. Opening receptions will be held June 5, August 1, and October 2 and are free and open to the public.
The Delaware Division of the Arts is an agency of the State of Delaware. Working with its advisory body, the Delaware State Arts Council, the DDA administers grants and programs that support arts programming, educate the public, increase awareness of the arts, and integrate the arts into all facets of Delaware life.
