The Associate in Arts Program is pleased to announce the launch of its new Summer Math Academy (SMA) for incoming first-year students planning to pursue majors in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). The program will bring new AAP students to the Wilmington campus from July 11–Aug. 18, 2022, for a combination of academic and social activities.
To be eligible for the SMA, students must be incoming AAP freshmen who are enrolled for the fall 2022 semester. The program is free to invited students, who will also receive a $400 weekly stipend for participating in the six-week program. In addition to its primary goal of preparing students to take college-level mathematics in their first semester at the AAP, the SMA will offer incoming students a number of additional benefits. It will help students to "jump-start" their college experience while enhancing their existing knowledge and skills. They will be introduced to habits and mindsets that lead to academic success, and they will become part of a community of student scholars who can provide each other with peer support as they pursue further STEM courses.
“The Summer Math Academy is an exciting opportunity for the AAP's STEM-intending students,” said Dr. Sarah Vigliotta, assistant professor of math and director of the SMA. “We will spend time building community, enhancing mathematical skills and learning more about how other STEM fields intersect with mathematics. I am looking forward to working with these students this summer and seeing what they accomplish in their academic career here at UD.”
