The University of Delaware has moved all summer instruction to online delivery, and registration is now underway! The online format means that all AAP students can branch out and take courses with instructors from any campus — Dover, Georgetown, or Wilmington. AAP summer courses are being offered in a variety of fun, fascinating, and useful topics. Here are just a few: Introduction to Drama with Dr. Bill Meehan will cover some of the greatest plays of all time, from Antigone to A Streetcar Named Desire. Students who need to get a step ahead with their math courses can take Intermediate Algebra with Dr. Matt Willis or College Math and Statistics.
Science on the Scene with Dr. Dan McDevit covers the science of local ecosystems; students will learn how to plan, build, and grow a garden of their own, as well as how to care for its pollinators, and classes will include virtual visits to the AAP beehives in Wilmington. And wizards and Muggles alike will love Studies in Popular Fiction: Harry Potter's Literary World with Dr. David Scott. (Instruction will be offered via Canvas and Zoom, but you may send Dr. Scott a message by owl if you have one.)
If you plan on taking summer courses offered by the AAP, register early! Classes with low enrollment will be dropped from the schedule, so don’t delay if you see a course that interests you. Payment is not due immediately, but it must be made before the start of classes.
Although all courses are being held online, some courses do require participation on certain days and times, while others will allow you to participate whenever it is most convenient for you. Be sure to read the course description carefully to make sure that the courses you select will work with your schedule.
Who Should Take Summer Courses?
We really recommend special-session courses to all students; taking a summer or winter course helps ensure that you complete your associate's degree in two years and make a timely transition to the Newark campus to finish your bachelor's degree. However, a summer course is especially useful for these students:
- Sophomores graduating in the Summer 2020 or Fall 2020 semesters who need additional credits to meet the minimum graduation requirements;
- First-year students who need the minimum GPA of 2.5 and/or minimum 24 credits by the end of Summer 2020 to keep their SEED Scholarship;
- First-year students who need additional credits to stay on track for a Spring 2021 graduation. You should earn 30 credits a year to "Finish in Two."
