Learn more about the NSO events we host for incoming freshmen!
BodyText1
Each campus holds several New Student Orientation (NSO) events. Each event is designed to help incoming freshmen and their parents by covering different phases of the orientation process. This is a helpful overview of the events that incoming students and their families should know about; for more information on the specific events held at your campus, see the Events Calendar or contact your campus's administrative office.
NSO Part 1: Evening information session for students and parents
BodyText2
New Student Orientation (NSO) Part 1 is an evening meet-and-greet session for incoming students and their families and is hosted by UDAAP faculty, staff, and former students in June. Faculty members and advisors talk about the UDAAP itself — how it fits within the broader University of Delaware, the benefits of the program, and the opportunities we offer for students. Former students discuss their experiences with the program and offer advice to the incoming freshman class. In addition, representatives from Student Financial Services, Disability Support Services, and other University support and administrative programs will be available to answer any questions you may have.
NSO Part 2: Individual Advisement Sessions
BodyText3
All incoming
freshmen are scheduled for an individual advisement session to select
courses for the fall semester and discuss them with an academic advisor. These individual meetings are attended by students only; each
incoming student will receive a mailed form that indicates the date and time of
his or her personal advisement and registration session. All incoming students MUST complete the online UD Math Placement Exam before their individual advisement session. The Math Placement Exam
and instructions for completing it are located at My Blue Hen Home. Students
who have not completed this placement exam will have to postpone their advisement and class selection.
The
individual advisement session is a crucial step in planning for a
successful freshman year. Students who are unable to attend their
assigned advisement appointment will be rescheduled for a time during
open registration and cannot be guaranteed their choice of seats in all
classes.
NSO Part 3: Campus Welcome
BodyText4
Part 3 of New Student Orientation for the fall semester is held in late August. The program of events for this Campus Welcome event includes important information about advisement, student activities,
use of DTCC campus facilities, parking, public safety, and more. At
noon, students meet with their advisors for tours of the campus. Like the individual advisement sessions, the Campus Welcome event is for students only; parents with questions should contact the campus's academic advisor or administrative office. To get the most out of the experience and to receive important reminders before the start of the fall semester, students should set up their UD email accounts before this event. Directions for email account setup are in the New Student
Orientation folder and at My Blue Hen Home.
We
look forward to giving our incoming freshmen the best possible introduction to the UDAAP as they begin their academic careers with us!
